Facelift Scars
Scarring after facelift surgery will depend on the type of facelift you have. For example, when it comes to facelift scars hairline incisions typically produce almost invisible scars because the hair covers them.
If your incisions were behind your ears or elsewhere, however, you may have somewhat visible scars. Still, keep in mind these will fade with time and proper care. Massage, silicone gel sheets, and staying out of the sun will help minimize their appearance.
Facelift Recovery
The duration of your facelift recovery period will also largely depend on the type of facelift you underwent. Mini facelift recovery may be shorter than deep plane facelift recovery, for example.
Most surgeries follow a recovery timeline similar to the following:
Week 1
Make sure you have someone to take you home directly following surgery. You will be swollen and bruised and may have some slight discomfort, which can be remedied with pain medication if necessary. Wear your compression strap as directed, and take it easy and rest.
Week 2
By this point, patients should no longer require pain medication and will be back to doing many of their normal daily activities. Swelling and bruising should be down but will likely still be present. Some patients may experience tingling and tightness.
Weeks 3-4
By the beginning of week 3, most patients are back at work and resuming much of their normal lives. 4 weeks after facelift still swollen? This is normal as long-term residual swelling is common following facelift surgery.
Week 5 and Beyond
Swelling may continue on for several more months after this point. However, you should be able to begin exercising normally again and going back to life as normal as you continue to see your results take shape.
